People More Awful than Pete? BELIEVE IT!

OK, I'll admit it. Maybe Pete's not the biggest asshole ever the history of the world. I did a little checking up and found our collective past is littered with examples that, yes, even outshine Pete with their stupendous cockgobblery. I've decided to profile some of these jerks right here in the hopes that through academic investigation, we may better understand the motivations of all assholes, fuckwads and pricks.

Right. Lets do this!

This first guy was guy so widely despised that after he died, he was allowed to decompose to such a degree that to get his bloated corpse into a coffin, it was necessary for someone to jump repeatedly on the lid forcing it down long enough so it could be nailed shut. Did I mention he was the Pope?

That's him (look at this guy, "aaauuuhhh I'm so holy" HAH!), Pope Alexander VI (6th). Born to the infamous Spanish Borgias that scandalized much of the early enlightenment, our friend here got to be Pope the old fashioned way, he paid for it. Once officially God's emissary on Earth, he became well practiced at simony and would even dismiss the entire College of Cardinals to appoint new ones that ponied up the desired cash. He instigated wars on behalf of his friends and when they died or were defeated in battle, he'd snap up their stuff and throw the loved ones he didn't have killed penniless into the street. Orgies, murder, betrayal, despotism, nepotism, yes sir good times at the Holy See for a stretch there. Somewhere after the birth of the 7th child he fathered whilst Pope, folks started to get wise and even grumble a bit. He ordered those people promptly burned alive (Most notably a rabble rousing priest named Savonorola, one of history's more complete assholes in his own right).

Of those kids, his daughter Lucrezia is of particular interest. Alexander sold his daughter to well connected rich dudes not once but 3 different times to benefit himself (getting ahold of those tricky pre-Reformation annulments a cinch when you are the only dude on earth authorized to do so). Not surprisingly, she developed a habit of poisoning people she didn't like. At one point, Alexander was so busy pillaging central Italy with his sons that he actually left Lucrezia in charge at the Vatican as Pope (below).

Things started getting dicey for Al when the King of France decided that he'd like to have Italy all to himself. After duping most of the divided principalities to unite for their common survival, he turned around and suggested the French take Sardinia first, which they did. By now Italy was filled with two things, death and people who fucking hated Pope Alexander VI. The despots he merely deposed instead of dispatched began to start some trouble and before setting off to do some more killin' and stealin' he had dinner with one them. Al and his most ruthless son, Cesare, sat down with Cardinal Adriano da Corneto and shortly after both became gravely ill and old Al died. Hm. No one's really sure what happened, but accounts of the illness survive and are, um, graphic:

"According to Burchard, Alexander VI's stomach became swollen and turned to liquid, while his face became wine-coloured and his skin began to peel off. Finally his stomach and bowels bled profusely. After more than a week of intestinal bleeding and convulsive fevers, and after accepting last rites and making a confession, the despairing Alexander VI expired on 18 August 1503 at the age of 72. He is said to have uttered the last words "Wait a minute" before expiring."

and here's that bit I mentioned above:

Burchard described how the Pope's mouth foamed like a kettle over a fire and how the body began to swell so much that it became as wide as it was long. The Venetian Ambassador reported that Alexander VI's body was "the ugliest, most monstrous and horrible dead body that was ever seen, without any form or likeness of humanity". Finally the body began to release sulphurous gasses from every orifice. Burchard records that he had to jump on the body to jam it into the undersized coffin and covered it with an old carpet, the only surviving furnishing in the room.

There you have it folks. On the patented "Pete-o-meter" scale of jerkosity, I got ol' Al coming in at a whopping 6 (out of a possible 7).

True Story

This is one of Pete's most favorite things in the world.
It's the Subway Chicken Bacon Ranch Swiss Toasted Sandwich. He eats, like, 3 of these fuckers a week. I hate Subway. I mean, other sandwich shoppes would just give it a name like "Steve's Favorite" or "the Gooch". But not Subway, oh no, only an asshole sandwich shoppe would cater to a clientele that requires the exact ingredients be listed as the name. Pete loves Subway. Ergo, he's an asshole. Keeps trying to get me to go with, pointing out their low calorie options and salad menu, like he's some kind of health nut. Yeah, a bacon, ranch and cheese health nut. Jerk.

Asshole Illustrated

Huge help, thanks Pete. In case you were as confused as I was or are simply familiar with the concept of 3 dimensional space, the above is Pete's attempt to visually represent the fact that his office was visited by a deranged, malnourished mennonite.

Maybe this will help.

Pete flies a chopper...

For the record...

this "quote" that you-know-who posted? total BS. frank was in there before pete and I was like, "Can you smell this thing?" and frank was all, "yeah, buddy, WTF?" and we both TOTALLY AGREED that it was the stupidest thing ever and were basically laughing our asses off when pete shows up like, "har har, what's so funny?" That's when frank totally screws me and nervously blurts out that, um Oh!, he loved it, and it was so much fun, and how much he wished pete would make a new one. what!? known fact: frank's worse at rubber band shooting that i am. pretty sure frank's just afraid of pete for some reason.

btw - i didn't have a picture of frank so i googled him and they didn't have one either. BUT they had a pic of two guys that separately had his first and last name, so together the picture illustrates my point. To be honest the Frank part of the pic is supposed to be Frank Zappa, but he's dead and this is the actor Griffin Dunne playing him, but the other dude (on the right) is the actual dude, same last name. Same haircut, too.

Breaking...

Bryson, I fucking love that kid. he doesn't say much, but when he does, it's usually hilarious. Apparently the aftermath of this thing won't be brief. So Bryson's working on some project and Pete appears at his door asking him to take a look at some "glitch" with his computer. So Bryson, whose job description has nothing to do with IT, reluctantly agrees to have a look. Once in Pete's office, Pete whips out the crumpled target and basically starts eulogizing it, explaining it's construction and mechanics, revealing his hyper-accurate target percentage, etc. Then he starts in with, as Bryson describes it, "like, poetry and shit." Apparently he continued with some nonsense about, "keys and doors in magic mountains, jogging." Yikes. Stay tuned.

Oh Grow Up

I'm a little fed up. Look, I can appreciate everyone's wanting to express themselves more at work. I mean, your average corporate environments make it tricky or downright impossible to achieve any tangible creative satisfaction so people resort to all sorts of things; doodling, origami, microsoft paint. That's good, I'm all for it (hey, guilty as charged!) but man, when you're "finished" do you really need to keep it? Working in advertising means everyone's convinced they're creative. In fact we actually use the adjective as an actual job title, to reinforce the notion that we are, in fact, creative. What does this mean? It's net effect is @ 10 times the average office's output of mangled office supplies masquerading as expression. Look there, a drawing of a space alien doing battle with a list of the client's comments. Or over here, what must be a record number of butterfly clips attached end to end. Better still, look here, a "sculpture" crafted from newspaper and packing tape. Each precious. Each special. Each left lying in everyone's way. Each with a hastily scrawled appeal to preserve it for posterity. Each crawling all over my fucking nerves. The place is starting to resemble the arts & crafts room at a mental hospital. Usually it's innocuous stuff, a paper clip rope or whatever. Stuff easily avoided. Sometimes, though, sometimes it's just there, every day and try as you might, it slowly eats at your sanity. This is the case with the rubber band target range. Yes, that's right, at some point the titular Pete of this here blog decided to coat (and I mean COAT!, like 4 bottles worth) a piece of black tissue paper with white-out for target practice. I swear to god, it had a bulls-eye, scoring rings, the whole deal. So he tapes this thing to the back of his door for a day and is so damn proud of his marksmanship decides to enshrine this noxious kleenex RIGHT BY THE MOST USED COMPUTER IN THE OFFICE! Honestly, you can't not use this computer, there's no way around it. Sometimes you're there for hours and your eyes start watering and then the back of your throat swells up. Well, anyway I had had enough, the heat came on today and chemically reactivated the white out, hell if I know, but I wasn't going to sit next to this thing any longer. I figured, "yeah, Pete's pretty proud of this thing and I should ask him if he'd like to keep it blah blah," so I started to carefully peel it off when it dawned on me that this was a piece of fucking tissue paper that he forgot about 9 months ago when he hung it by my fucking chair (which now that i think about it, he KNOWS i can;t shoot rubber bands worth a damn, i bet he did it to gloat) so i just tore it down and threw it away. Naturally, he walks right in and it's the first thing he mentions, then he goes on and on about how important it was and giving me shit and I'm all, "what? that was yours? I didn't know that. So sorry, etc." Then he, get this, actually starts rooting through the trash. For a piece of tissue paper. Painted with white out. That was full of holes. From rubber bands. So I got up and left to do some work and shit when Michael Bryson (who was working with Pete) tells me that instead of wasting time on another Post It note flip book, Pete's decided to start a fucking blog about this whole fucking incident. Fine by me. Hope updating your blog about how much cooler I am than you doesn't take away from all those sweet-ass highlighter "paintings" you've been preoccupied with lately. That'd be a shame.
